I've recently been !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Please tell me why I shouldn't run out and buy this thing. I can't think of a reason why I need a 12-year-old Jaguar right now.

For the same reason you needed another horrifically expensive to maintain car. Because it's awesome. Do it.

You'd look too cool and have too much fun. Why would anyone buy an XK8? They're just gorgeous cars that are fun to drive.

um um um
Automatic. Not XKR therefore not supercharged. Dogged reliability. Ancient XJS architecture. Ford switchgear.

It's a clean example of one of the finest grand tourers of the late 20th/early 21st century. Buy it.

You don't need it because you value your financial stability.
OR
You do need it because Die Another Day really was your favorite Bond film, and wow, just look at it.

Here I will talk you out of it: don't buy it because you need as much money as possible sitting in your bank when you die as a reminder of hard work gone to waste.

It'll make the Phaeton seem cheap to maintain.

my stepbrother had one, it was a fun thing to drive, it was damn expensive to fix, but compared to the Phaeton, likely less so. I cannot talk you out of it, just make sure that engine doesn't have ANY noise. I have seen them go high mileage, but there is a big question mark if it is going to have bottom end issues between now and 120K.

I'd be a fool to sell that thing. It's paid off, costs nothing to maintain, and keeps going and going and going.

Well, the Galant is already my DD, and the Phaeton is my weekend car, so this would maybe be like a federal holiday car. I don't think I'd rack up too many miles.

do you have space for it? if so screw it. It's in all effect 10 grand. Remodel a bathroom or own a Jag coupe...

Do it.

You need to do this. Please do.

If you value low maintenance and reliability, there is literally no reason you should buy a 12 year old Jag.
Not sure what you want in your driving experience, but honestly you could probably come close to what this thing has to offer by throwing brakes and suspension on an old Lexus GS430. A 12 year old XK is what you call a bad idea.

I disagree. I think it would be slightly cheaper to run than a Phaeton.

I've been looking at these for a little while. Great lines, a little long in the back, but it could be quite a fun project. Interior is super weird but you could redo that if you're a true masochist.
